Content: “Neurodiversity: Becoming a Neurodivergent-Affirmative Practitioner”
This presentation explores the creation of a neurodiversity-affirming practice through the process of recognizing and understanding neurodiversity characteristics in clients who may be presenting with co-occurring symptoms of other mental health disorders. We will explore ways to assist clients through self-acceptance by validating what it means to be neurodiverse and provide essential psychoeducation to our clients to create greater self-understanding. This presentation will also assist the practitioner in helping the client be aware of treatment/symptom management and develop a treatment plan that includes diagnosis and treatment options.
Learning Objectives:
1. Recognizing the characteristics of neurodiversity, including less-visible populations.
2. Supporting neurodiverse clients through validation and psychoeducation.
3. Assisting neurodiverse clients in creating a treatment plan that includes diagnosis and symptom management, including professional collaboration and/or referrals healing
