This session will address the business-critical skill set of working effectively with others - in particular relating to engaging in potentially uncomfortable conversations with co-workers. Conflict is inevitable in almost all work settings. Ultimately you have three options when it comes to conflict - avoid it, address it poorly or address it effectively. This session will address barriers to, and strategies for, addressing conflict effectively.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the cost and consequences of poor conflict management
Explore relevant concepts related to types and styles of conflict
Explore factors affecting individuals' decisions to address conflict
Provide individual, team and leader related strategies for addressing conflict more effectively.

Matthew Steinkamp, LCSW, CCP - Director, lntermountain Employee Assistance Program
Matt Steinkamp is the Director of the Intermountain Health Employee Assistance Program (EAP), based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He leads a comprehensive program providing counseling, coaching, consultation, training, and crisis‑response services across multiple states. With more than 30 years of experience in EAP and behavioral health, Matt has supported professionals at every organizational level, including executives, physicians, leaders, and front‑line staff. His work centers on strengthening organizational well‑being through awareness, education, skill building, and personal accountability. Matt is a licensed clinical social worker, professional coach and trained mediator.
